On behalf of the University, I am pleased to welcome you to the Department of Automotive Engineering. The establishment of this department reflects the institution’s strategic commitment to advancing innovation in mobility, transportation systems, and manufacturing technologies in Nigeria and across the globe. The programme was conceived to address the growing national need for specialized expertise in automotive systems, sustainable transport technologies, vehicle design, safety engineering, and policy development. As a new department, we are systematically building our capacity in line with national regulatory standards, institutional goals, and global best practices.
The curriculum is aligned with CCMAS, COREN, and Outcome-Based Education standards and is structured to: (a) Develop competent engineers with strong analytical, technical, and professional skills, (b) Promote innovation in automotive design, powertrains, manufacturing, and intelligent transport systems, (c) Support Nigeria’s transition to cleaner and smarter mobility solutions, (d) Strengthen linkages between industry, research, and policy
The department is committed to becoming a centre of excellence in: Automotive research and development, Industry-focused training and professional capacity building, Sustainable and intelligent mobility technologies, Transport policy, safety, and regulatory innovation
We are taking deliberate steps to: Establish modern laboratories and technology centres, Recruit highly qualified faculty and technical personnel, Build industry partnerships for internships, research, and technology transfer, Engage government agencies, OEMs, and development partners in strategic collaboration.
Students, researchers, industry partners, and stakeholders will find in this department a credible platform for advancement, innovation, and collaboration.
